35 Thank You Messages for Clients (By Moment, Not Template)
35 thank you messages for clients and customers: after a project, at a renewal, for a referral, a first order, a long relationship, or a hard stretch. Plus what turns a thank-you into a pitch.
Client thank-yous fail in a particular way: they turn into pitches. Thank you for your business, we look forward to serving you again is technically gratitude and practically an invoice footer. The ones that work are the opposite: specific about what happened, warm about what it meant, and completely free of next steps. Below are 35 thank you messages for clients and customers, organised by the moment that earned them: a finished project, a renewal, a referral, a first order, a long relationship, a hard stretch, and the whole team saying thank you together.
After a project wraps up
- The launch went live this morning and I wanted to say thank you before the next thing starts. It was a genuine pleasure.
- Thank you for being so clear about what you needed, and so patient while we got there. It made this project a good one.
- We’ve just closed the last ticket on the project. Thank you for trusting us with it from start to finish.
- Thank you for the quick decisions and the honest feedback. Projects like this one are rare, and we know you’re a big part of why.
- The team asked me to pass this on: thank you. This was one of our favourite projects of the year.
At a renewal
- Thank you for staying with us for another year. We don’t take it for granted.
- Renewals are easy to treat as paperwork. Yours isn’t to us. Thank you for another year.
- Thank you for the vote of confidence. We’ll keep earning it.
- Another year together. Thank you for choosing us again.
For a referral
- Thank you for introducing us to Priya’s team. We’re taking very good care of them.
- A referral is a favour with your name on it. Thank you for trusting us with it.
- Thank you for passing our name along. It’s the best compliment a small business can get.
- I heard you recommended us. Thank you, sincerely. That means more than any review.
For a first order or a new customer
- Thank you for your first order. We packed it ourselves, and we hope it arrives exactly as you pictured it.
- Welcome, and thank you for giving us a try. If anything isn’t right, reply and a real person will fix it.
- Thank you for choosing us. We know there were other options.
- Your first project with us is done. Thank you for taking the chance on someone new.
For a long-standing client
- Five years working together this spring. Thank you for every one of them.
- Thank you for being the client who makes us better at our jobs. We mean that.
- You’ve been with us since we were three people and a borrowed office. Thank you for sticking around.
- Thank you for years of good work, fair deadlines and the occasional excellent biscuit at your office.
After a hard stretch or a mistake on our side
- Thank you for your patience while we fixed this. You were fairer about it than we’d have been.
- We got this one wrong, and you gave us room to put it right. Thank you.
- It was a difficult few months. Thank you for working through it with us rather than walking away.
- Thank you for the straight feedback. It was uncomfortable to hear and exactly what we needed.
From the whole team
- From everyone who worked on your project, including the people you never saw: thank you.
- The whole team wanted to sign this. That’s not something we say about every client.
- Thank you from the design team, the build team and the person who kept the spreadsheet honest.
- Everyone who touched this project wanted to say thank you. So here we all are.
A client usually sees one or two faces on your side, not the dozen people who did the work. A thank you card from TeamRally Cards lets everyone who worked on it sign, each invited by their own email, and delivers it on the day you choose. Free to make, sign and send, with up to 100 invited signers and no account needed by anyone signing. For cards that go to clients you can add your logo, colours and typeface; that’s $19 and covers every card you make for a year.
Writing to a whole client list? Send one card to a list: write the message once, and up to 25 clients each get their own copy at their own email, greeted by name. Free.
Short ones
- Thank you, genuinely. It was a pleasure.
- Thank you for trusting us with this.
- Grateful to work with you. Thank you.
- Thank you for choosing us.
- Thank you, from all of us.
- Thank you for making this one easy.
What makes these work
They name the moment. The launch, the renewal, the referral, the five years. A thank-you tied to a moment is gratitude; one tied to nothing is marketing.
They’re about the client, not the invoice. “Thank you for being so clear about what you needed” is about how they worked. “Thank you for your business” is about what they paid.
They stop. No “we look forward to”, no “don’t hesitate to reach out”, no link to a case study. The card is the whole message.
What to avoid
- “Thank you for your business.” The default sentence, and the one that most reads like a receipt.
- A next step in the last line. A thank-you that ends with a request becomes the request. Send the follow-up separately, later.
- Discount codes. Putting a promotion in a thank-you card tells the client which of the two you were really sending.
- Asking for a review in the same breath. If you need reviews, ask in a separate, plainly worded message.
- Gifts the client can’t accept. Public-sector, healthcare and finance clients often can’t accept anything of value. A card is almost always fine; check before adding a gift.
- Thanking too late. A thank-you three months after the project reads as a campaign. Within a week reads as meant.
